About Nicodemus Abel

Nicodemus Abel (born August 15, 1967) is a plant geneticist. Born Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, he is a breeder of casuarina, teak, and other tree species.

Education and career


He completed both Bachelor's (1987) and Masters (1989) in Botany from Madras Christian College. In 1990, he joined at Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India as Research Assistant. While working there he managed to complete his Ph.D. in Botany from University of Madras and being promoted as Research Officer. Later in 1997, he competed and got selected in Scientist examination conducted by Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education and was posted as Scientist in Division of Seed Technology before moving to Division of Genetics and Tree Breeding and working exclusively in Tree improvement and breeding programs of Casuarina and Teak. Besides as a Scientist, he is an academician, being a recognized research supervisior in FRI and Bharathiar University for the award for M.Phil. and Ph.D programs.
